Refractive surgery's goal is to permanently correct refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism), so that there is no need for eyeglasses or contact lenses in order to see clearly.

Myopia (Nearsightedness): Poor distance vision with good near vision.
Hyperopia (Farsightedness): Better distance vision than near vision. Fatigue when uncorrected.
Astigmatism: Poor distance and near vision. "Shadows" beside objects.
